What is NAPFA, and Why Should You Care About It?

As NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisors, we are fiduciary financial planners, which means we’re legally and ethically required to act in your best interest.

We’re Connecticut locals who understand Connecticut-specific tax laws and exemptions. Our advisors are experts in navigating transitions – whether it’s retirement, divorce, inheritance, or career changes – and know how to formulate a plan to make your wealth work for you.

The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is the nation’s leading professional organization of fee-only financial advisors.

All NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisors must meet the highest competency standards and are required to act as fiduciaries at all times, meaning they’re ethically bound to act in your best interest.

  • Annual fixed fee of $3,000 plus an assets under management fee starting at 0.75% that declines at higher asset levels.
  • Fee-only means we are compensated only by our clients. We receive no compensation from third parties.
  • As your assets increase, your fee as a percentage of assets decreases.

Financial Planning FAQs

What are HTG's fees, and are there any minimums?
What are HTG's fees, and are there any minimums?

As a NAPFA-affiliated firm, we are fee-only fiduciaries, meaning we do not receive commissions or fees from the sale of financial products. Our fees come exclusively from our clients, so you can count on us to be transparent and straightforward. All of our services, including financial planning, investment management, client meetings, performance reviews, portfolio reporting, tax reports, etc., are included in our fees, which are billed quarterly in arrears.

Our fees consist of a fixed fee of $3,000 per year plus an assets under management fee starting at 0.75% that declines at higher asset levels. While we don’t have strict minimums, our fees generally make sense for clients with at least $2 million in investable assets (excluding home equity and checking accounts), as this allows us to provide the most value and makes the most financial sense for both parties.

Can I request to work only with HTG’s NAPFA-registered advisors?

Every HTG client is assigned an advisory team. This collaborative model gives our clients access to our advisors’ collective knowledge – including that of our NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisors – and helps us provide comprehensive advice. As a client, you will have access to our entire group of experts and support staff.

Can I pay for one-time planning?

At this time, our offerings include comprehensive financial solutions that encompass both financial planning and investment management, so we do not offer stand-alone financial plans. Our integrated service allows us to provide a holistic and tailored approach to managing your financial well-being.

Is HTG's first consultation free?

Yes. Our 30-minute introductory call is complimentary. It’s a chance to learn about your financial situation and share how we can help, without pressure or obligation.

I don’t live in Connecticut. Can I still work with HTG?

Yes. In fact, our clients are geographically dispersed across the country; fewer than half reside in Connecticut. We are accessible via telephone and video conference, and regularly schedule trips to regions outside the NY Metro area.

What is HTG’s investment philosophy? What investment strategies does HTG use?

We apply proven investment principles, such as asset allocation and diversification, in implementing your plan. We use a combination of quality funds to effectively implement the allocation. Funds are selected based on process, performance, cost, tax-efficiency and manager experience.

Ready to reach your financial goals?

We help individuals in Connecticut and nationwide plan and invest through:
  • Pre-Retirement

Our comprehensive approach and fees generally make sense for clients with at least $2 million in investable assets.
