Robin Sherwood, CFP®
It is often remarked that life has many twists and turns. I began my adult life pursuing a degree in Japanese and expect to conclude my career as a financial advisor guiding families to financial security.
My parents certainly thought my major in college was unusual, but I loved the challenge of learning a completely foreign language and experiencing a radically different culture. In addition, living in Japan for a year taught me to appreciate different approaches and outlooks on life and work.
This education was followed by work experience at the Library of Congress, the Port Authority of NY and NJ, and ultimately, an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Upon graduation, I worked for Smithkline Beckman in their industrial division in a finance role. However, when it came time to have a family, a Wharton colleague suggested I consider financial planning. I took his advice because it seemed to be a perfect way to blend my finance and interpersonal skills. And, unlike corporate finance, it felt like I could make a difference in people’s lives. So, in 1989, I earned my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification, and with two toddlers in tow, I began an immensely satisfying 25+ year career as a fee-only financial planner.
In this role, I have had the pleasure of entering clients’ living rooms and helping to guide them to a better financial future.
I have shared their highs and lows and have been honored to be the person they rely on and trust. Together, we have weathered many personal, economic, and market challenges.
At HTG, my principal roles involve working directly with clients, designing and implementing portfolios, developing and reviewing financial plans, serving as President and Chief Compliance Officer, and mentoring other advisors. While I am highly experienced in counseling clients near and in retirement, I particularly enjoy working with young clients to get them started on the right financial path. My personal goal when working with a client is to educate and guide them towards the best financial choices for them.
I was raised in California but now consider myself a New Englander. My husband works in Chicago, and my two daughters are living and working in Denver and London. I am thrilled to have one daughter follow in my footsteps at HTG. In my free time, I enjoy travel, bridge, tennis, and reading.
